Through the events marking the 50th anniversary of Teatre Lliure, we wish to acknowledge and express our gratitude for the legacy we have inherited from those who came before us. We want to evoke and pay tribute to the origins of the Lliure and to the decisive role played by its founding members, as well as by all the theatre workers and artists who, over the past fifty years, have continued to write its history. We also want to do so with the awareness that we are part of a human and artistic chain. We receive a baton that we will pass on to those who come after us. Theatre is both an art form and a craft—one that is learned, passed down, and transformed.

Exhibitions
— Un Teatre Lliure
21/09 — Until January | Palau Robert, Barcelona
We are filling Palau Robert de Barcelona with an exhibition that focuses on the role of the set designer and the concept of space, a defining feature of Teatre Lliure’s rich stagecraft since its beginnings. We have invited five set designers from different generations, whose careers are closely intertwined with our history, to draw inspiration from each of the five decades that make up our trajectory and create five installations: five perspectives, five different ways of playing with space.

We exhibit again the group show of the artistic materials created by students from kindergarten to sixth grade at Barcelona’s La Sedeta School. They have resulted from their examination of the figure of Fabià Puigserver—a set and costume designer, stage director and founder of the Teatre Lliure—as part of the Escoles Tàndem project promoted by the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera. It is a visual journey through the life course of Puigserver and the beginnings of the Teatre Lliure, reinterpreted from a clean, playful and creative perspective, curated by the set designer Sebastià Brosa.

Is is a concert in the Liceu that aims to be an act of living memory and collective projection, summoning the spirit of the Orquestra de Cambra Teatre Lliure and the programmes they performed. It is an affirmation that the spirit of Fabià Puigserver, open, plural and radically alive, continues to resonate fully in the way we understand culture as a public service and a place of encounter and freedom.
